Who can run for Office?

The Town of Erin's Council, including the Offices of Mayor and four Councillors is elected at large. We are also the returning office for one County of Wellington Councillor position to represent Erin.


To be eligible to run for office, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian citizen
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be a resident of the Town of Erin, or be an owner or tenant of land or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land
  • not be prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act, or by any law

How do I run for Office?

The nomination period is from May 1 to July 27, 2018. Nomination papers  must be filed in person during office hours up to July 26th, and on Nomination Day (July 27), the legislated deadline is 2:00pm.


Candidates are required to file their nomination prior to commencing campaign activities, which must be accompanied by the required 25 declaration of endorsements by qualified electors, as well as the nomination fee of $200 for Mayor and $100 for Councillor.
